Getting Started
IteMod uses a two-panel layout: the editor on the left and a live card preview on the right. Changes you make in the editor are reflected on the card in real time.
To create your first item, click New in the toolbar. Fill in a name, pick a rarity, and start adding description text. The card preview updates as you type.

Editor Tabs
Properties
Set the item's name, type (weapon, armor, wondrous item, etc.), rarity, attunement requirements, weight, and charges. These fields populate the card's header and subtitle.
Description
Write the item's flavor text and mechanical description using rich text. This is what players see on the card. Supports bold, italic, and bullet lists.
DM Info
Add DM-only content: curse details, true properties, lore, gold value, drop source, and private notes. These fields are hidden from players in exports and share links.
Item Set
Define set membership: set name, piece count, and a set bonus that activates when all pieces are collected. See the Item Sets section for details.
3
Card Preview
The right panel shows a live card that updates as you edit. Click text on the card to edit it inline, just like in the editor.
Use the Style dropdown to change the card's visual theme and the Size dropdown to switch between playing card, quarter-page, half-page, and full-page layouts. The zoom controls (− / +) let you scale the preview; click the percentage label to reset to fit-to-width.
4
DM / Player Split
Fields in the DM Info tab (curse text, true properties, lore, value, drop source, DM notes) are visible only to the DM. The player version of the card omits these fields entirely.
When an item has DM content, exports and share links automatically generate separate player and DM versions so you can hand out the player card without revealing hidden information.
5
Exporting
Four export formats are available from the toolbar:
- PNG: A high-resolution image of the card. If the item has DM content, you get both a player and a DM image.
- PDF: A single-card PDF sized to the card, or a multi-card print layout that arranges multiple items on standard pages with crop marks.
- Markdown: Plain-text Markdown for use in notes, VTTs, or wikis. DM content is included in a separate DM file when present.
- JSON: Machine-readable format for backup or import into other tools. Player and DM versions are exported separately when DM fields are populated.
6
Item Sets
Group related items into a set by giving them the same Set Name in the Item Set tab. Specify the total piece count and a set bonus that activates when all pieces are collected.
Set information appears at the bottom of the card, showing the set name, piece count, and bonus text. This is useful for items like a matched pair of gauntlets or a full suit of enchanted armor.
7
Sharing
Click Share in the toolbar to generate a shareable link. If the item has DM content, you can choose between a player link (DM fields hidden) and a DM link (full item).
Share links can be revoked at any time from the My Items panel. Revoking a link immediately disables access for anyone who has it.
8
My Items
Sign in to save items to the cloud. Free accounts can save up to 10 items; supporters get up to 100. Saved items are accessible from any device and cached locally for quick access.
Click Save to store the current item, or My Items to browse, load, or delete saved items.
9
Importing
Click Import to search the Open5e magic item database. Find an item by name, select it, and it loads into the editor ready for customization.
Click Random to generate a random magic item with randomized properties, rarity, and description. Good for quick loot drops or inspiration.
